The train

The "Al Ándalus Expreso" was launched in 1983, the Andalusian region was and still is its main route, passing through the heart of what was originally Arab Spain, Granada, Córdoba, Jerez, Ronda, Seville, and visiting several UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The main model of this train was the mythical "Orient Express" with an interior in the style of the "Belle Epoque", a hallmark of elegance and comfort, but with the technological advances of today.

The "Al Ándalus Expreso" ran from 1985 to 2005 and was operated by the company Iberrail, which went bankrupt in 2005 and ceased train operations. The carriages were parked at San Pablo station in Seville and fell into disrepair over the years. As an anecdote, the train is sometimes used for documentaries or as part of a film set, such as during the shooting of the film "Knight and Day" starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

Unlike other luxury tourist trains such as the Orient Express, the Al Ándalus train is not just a luxurious train journey, but is complemented by a complete programme of guided tours and excursions in different languages, cultural and natural history activities, gastronomic tastings and free time to visit the destinations.

All carriages are equipped with air conditioning and heating. The current composition of the Al Ándalus train shows some changes compared to the original.
15 carriages: 1 kitchen carriage, 2 restaurant carriages, 1 bar carriage, 1 lounge and games carriage, 5 sleeping carriages, 1 staff carriage, 1 generator carriage and 1 locomotive.
The maximum capacity of the train is 64 passengers.

Sleeping car
The 5 sleeping carriages originate from the luxury carriages built in France in 1929. They were used by the British monarchy for their holiday trips from Calais to the Côte d'Azur. When they were acquired by RENFE in 1983, they were restored with greatest detail.

Lounge carriages
The Al Ándalus train has 4 lounge carriages, which are considered true railway gems. They are air-conditioned, interconnected salons that are open 24 hours a day and can be visited and used by all passengers. Due to its interior fittings, it is considered the best luxury train in the world in terms of space.

Giralda, Medina Azahara, Alhambra and Gibralfaro carriages
The Giralda bar carriage is an ideal place to have a drink and chat with other passengers. In the other lounge car, the Medina Azahara, you can relax and take in the marvellous scenery or enjoy various games. At the end of the day, these lounges are ideal for enjoying an evening programme (live performances, parties or simply listening to music). The other two lounges, Alhambra and Gibralfaro, are designed as restaurants where the daily breakfast is served à la carte or buffet style and where you can savour the rich gastronomy of the region and Spanish cuisine prepared by renowned chefs. On other occasions, depending on the programme, meals will be taken in selected first-class restaurants in the towns where the visits are planned.

Dress code
Comfortable clothing and footwear are recommended for the visits and excursions during the day. In the evening, especially at the gala dinner, more formal attire may be chosen, although no specific etiquette is prescribed at any time.

The rooms

The suites of the Al Ándalus train are very complete accommodations, as they are equipped with every possible amenity. The furnishings change from day to night. During the day it becomes a comfortable private living room with sofa, and at night the beds open up and become a bedroom. All rooms on the Ándalus train are air-conditioned and can be regulated independently.

The spacious ensuite bathroom is equipped with a shower, a hairdryer and a toiletries set with an exclusive fragrance and toiletry bag.
